Phoebe Celebrates its 16th Annual Golf Fundraiser

Phoebe Ministries hosted the 16th annual Golf Tournament on Monday, August 12, at the prestigious Saucon Valley Country Club. The Golf Tournament is famously Phoebe’s largest fundraising event of the year, with proceeds going to charitable care for seniors in need.

Over 225 golfers took to one of three courses to compete for overall scores and hole-specific contests. Cash prizes, televisions, and a brand-new Mercedes-Benz were all up for the taking in contests such as “longest drive” and “closest to the pin.” The day was backdropped by comfortable temperatures and clear skies.

New to the tournament this year was the Online Auction, in which golfers and the general public could bid on various packages, including snack and alcohol bundles, car detailing, a stay at Wind Creek Hotel, and a Caribbean cruise. Bidding had commenced a couple of weeks before the event and was open until 5:30 p.m. the day of. These auction items were displayed at the registration table for attendees to view.

The Helicopter Golf Ball Drop is a staple at every Phoebe golf tournament and kicked off the day with hundreds of numbered golf balls dropped by a helicopter around a target on the course. The ball that landed closest to the pin was awarded a cash prize of up to $2500.

After golfers received brunch and gifts that included an umbrella and cap, groups began making their way out to their designated courses on golf carts around noon. Volunteers made up of Phoebe staff, residents, and other corporate volunteers joined golfers at contest holes to officiate the results. Coolers filled with refreshments were scattered around each course to keep golfers energized throughout the day.

After golfing concluded, attendees gathered at the Clubhouse for the country club’s buffet-style dinner, complete with desserts and hand-crafted alcoholic beverages. Scott Stevenson, President and CEO of Phoebe Ministries, kicked off the award ceremony by thanking those in attendance for supporting charitable care. A touching speech by Chestnut Ridge resident Elinore Gold attested to the positive impact that Phoebe has left on her life and the lives of her peers, reminding us of the importance of these critical fundraisers.

Checks and trophies were given out to the day’s top performers, and winners of the online auction were able to take their bundles home if they were in attendance. Stevenson wished everyone a safe drive home and for attendees to return for the 2025 Golf Tournament.

Phoebe holds multiple fundraising events, like the golf tournament, every year. To learn more about Phoebe’s Gala, the next major fundraising event on October 17, please visit phoebe.org/gala.
