Phoebe Richland Residents Create Happy Little Sheep Through Canvas Painting

Residents of Phoebe Richland partook in a relaxing afternoon of canvas painting on Friday, April 11. Led by Artist Katie Heebner on behalf of ArtsQuest in Bethlehem, the group spent an hour with easels, brushes, paint palettes, and canvases.

Heebner led residents of Phoebe Richland through numerous painting projects in the past. Previous subjects include flowers, foxes, and other animals. This time, residents painted a sheep against a blue background.

Heebner guided residents step-by-step using a paint-by-numbers system. The system allows residents to paint specific sections at a time before peeling back stickers to reveal a new spot to put paint on the canvas. This process helped ensure the lines around the sheep looked clean and uniform.

Residents joked with each other and shared their past art experiences as they worked on their fluffy animal companions. Once peeled away, the stickers revealed the “shear” beauty of each painting.

These canvas painting sessions help residents share their creativity and add a splash of color to their everyday lives. Residents of any skill level and all art backgrounds are welcome to join the fun.
