The Phoebe Institute on Aging Fall Conference Moves to SteelStacks

Artsquest-Center-ssThe Phoebe Institute on Aging will present a conference for members of the aging services and healthcare fields on Wednesday, October 26, 2016 at ArtsQuest at SteelStacks in Bethlehem. Person-Centered Care: Responding to the Diverse Needs of an Aging Population will educate attendees on advocacy, narrative medicine, culture change and creating inclusive communities for older adults from diverse cultures, abilities, orientation, and gender identity.

The keynote will be given by Judah Ronch, Ph.D., Dean of the Erickson School at The University of Maryland, the first school of its kind that provides an interdisciplinary degree and continuing education programs for leadership and management excellence in aging services. Ronch has written and co-authored numerous books, including Culture Change in Long-term Care, Mental Wellness and Aging, and Alzheimer’s Disease: A Practical Guide for Those Who Help Others.

The morning will begin with a screening of the film, Gen Silent, the critically acclaimed documentary about the challenges faced by LGBT older adults in the care system and those who are trying to change LGBT aging for the better.

The conference will also include a full break-out session track on LGBT aging as well as other sessions on a variety of topics of interest to aging services and healthcare professionals.

Online registration for the conference will open in early September. The cost for the full day conference which includes all programming, a continental breakfast, and a boxed lunch is $25. Students are free with a valid ID (which must be presented during morning registration) and scholarships will be awarded.

Phoebe is applying for 6.5 continuing education credits in the following disciplines: Nursing, Nursing Home Administrator, Personal Care Administrator, Social Work, Activities Professionals and Pastoral Care. Most CEUs credits have an additional cost.
