Phoebe Wyncote Receives Alzheimer’s Foundation of America Distinction Certification
Wyncote, PA – The Phoebe Wyncote campus, 208 Fernbrook Avenue, is the first community in Montgomery County and the closest to the City of Philadelphia to be recognized as an Excellence in Care Program of Distinction by the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America. As of January 2014, Phoebe Ministries operates seven out of the 11 memory support communities in Pennsylvania that have this designation. Phoebe was the first organization in the state to achieve this status and has the most communities with this distinction in Pennsylvania.
“It is an honor to have our programs recognized by a national organization that sets very high standards for memory support care,” says Cynthia Townsend-McHerrin, Social Services Coordinator for Phoebe Wyncote. “We are so proud of the dedication of our team and the many hours spent creating Phoebe Wyncote’s outstanding dementia services.”
Phoebe Wyncote was named one of America’s best nursing homes by U.S. News and World Report in 2013. For the second year in a row, Phoebe Wyncote received 5 stars, the highest governmental rating available by the federal Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.
Phoebe Wyncote offers specialized memory support programing for residents with early to mid-stages of dementia along with various other forms of care. Skilled nursing care provides residents a full range of nursing services in a home-like setting. Personal care affords numerous levels of assistance with daily living activities, and independent living offers a number of spacious studio apartments and worry-free living for residents.
The Alzheimer’s Foundation of America (AFA) developed Excellence of Care to partner with care settings in the establishment of a nationwide standard of excellence in care for individuals with Alzheimer’s disease or related dementias. AFA’s program assists facilities in reaching the highest standards of care for people with dementia and serves as a resource to caregivers searching for the best facility for their loved ones.
In 2008, Phoebe Allentown’s Bridgeways neighborhood was the first community in Pennsylvania to receive the distinction. In 2010, Phoebe Richland Health Care Center met the requirements and was the second Phoebe community to receive the distinction. In 2012, Phoebe Allentown’s newest memory support neighborhood, Legacy Place, was also awarded the Program of Distinction designation. In 2013, the Phoebe Berks campus with its three memory support areas received the distinction. Phoebe Ministries is excited to add Phoebe Wyncote to our lineup of award-winning memory support facilities.
