Allentown Fire Department Honored in 9/11 Service at The Terrace

The Terrace at Phoebe Allentown proudly hosted members of the local fire department on September 11 for a special memorial service.

Led by Chaplain Chera Wertz, the service aimed to honor the memory of those lost in the September 11, 2001, attacks on the United States. Wertz offered a moment of silence and words of love, healing, and unity.

Wertz then thanked the firefighters in attendance for their bravery and continued service to the community while further recognizing the first responders not in attendance who helped navigate the tragedy of the September 11 attacks.

The firefighters were given metal tokens as a symbol of appreciation from Phoebe Allentown before being invited to donuts and coffee.

Some in attendance chose to share deeply personal and touching stories about September 11.

For example, Cindy Sandt, a Terrace volunteer, shared a bit about the importance of therapy/emotional support dogs at the time, tying it back to the significance of the dog she currently calls family.

Carmela Simmons, Residential Services Coordinator, expressed hope for more love and unity in the country.

Captain Jonathan Rammel of the Allentown Fire Department shared his gratitude for the recognition he and his team received before returning to duty for the rest of the day.

“It was an honor to put together this service,” says Wertz. “It was with deep gratitude that we recognized the Allentown Fire Department. The service was a reflection of admiration, respect, and heartfelt appreciation for their service.”
