Phoebe Residents Experience Virtual Visits to New York City and Paris, France

This past spring and summer, Phoebe residents and their families enjoyed “trips around the world”- virtual visits to New York and Paris that were organized by Community Life staff members.

A New York State of Mind

On the afternoon of April 23, residents and families of Legacy Place experienced The Big Apple! Eileen Mihocko, Community Life Coordinator, organized the event with the help of the rest of the community life staff, volunteers and CURA Hospitality. Mihocko’s artistic flair came shining through as she took the idea from a conversation with residents and transformed it into a very memorable visit that seemed to come together in a New York minute. The day was complete with virtual “visits” to New York hot spots through murals painted by Mihocko. A staff member dressed as Lady Liberty and two community life staff members created a horse-drawn buggy – one dressed as the horse and one riding in the carriage- in the Allentown skilled nursing community. CURA Hospitality staff provided authentic New York cuisine and beverages. Residents also received giveaways such as fragrances by Chanel, jewelry from Tiffany’s and gifts from Macy’s.

Bon Voyage!

On August 19, the residents at Devitt House, one of Phoebe’s affordable housing communities, went international. They had reservations to “go to Paris” and enjoy an authentic French meal, a fashion show in the world fashion capital, and French décor. Residents enjoyed a delicious meal of Chicken Cordon Bleu, Au Gratin Potatoes, French Style Green Beans, French Bread and for dessert, Fruit Crepes. Bon appétit!

After dinner, they viewed a fashion show featuring several of the Devitt House residents as models. All of the models did an outstanding job modeling the “latest fashions from Paris” and residents, volunteers and staff members who organized the event enjoyed the avant-garde virtual visit to France!
