Phoebe Allentown is seeking an enthusiastic and creative individual to join our dedicated care team in our Community Life Department.  This part time position assists with the planning, presentation and implementation of programs, daily activities and special events for our residents. The ideal applicant will possess superior communication and interpersonal skills, a high level of energy, creativity, and imagination, along with the desire to help our residents enjoy their days to the fullest.  Prior experience working with an elderly population is preferred but not necessary.

Education:   Currently a college student who has completed at least two years and is majoring in music.

Skills: Excellent people skills, good listener, proficient in an instrument or voice with ability to lead programs for residents in both one-on-one and group settings and to provide special music for worship services, chaplain chats, and other pastoral care and community life programing, ability to use other instruments and recorded music to relate to and draw out residents, team player, caring and compassionate

Experience: Prior history with long term care setting is preferred but not required.  Any experience in worship leadership in others settings is beneficial.

  General Responsibilities

The Summer College Music Internship is designed to meet the following educational objectives:


  • Give the student experience in working collaboratively with community life and pastoral care staff to meet the needs of long-term care residents and to have chances to reflect on this experience in real time.
  • To be able to engage through music with residents in all settings of senior care including independent living, personal care, rehabilitation, memory support and end of life care.
  • To learn the value of music as a therapeutic art form that can bring joy, inspiration, comfort and meaning for those who are aging
  • To gather experience in the long-term care setting that may have the student exploring the field of long-term care in the future and perhaps taking further studies in music therapy, other fields of art and/or theological studies
