Color Me Phoebe Walk/Run at Phoebe Berks

Published on July 8, 2015

On June 22, over 100 participants ran or walked in the Color Me Phoebe race held on the Phoebe Berks campus. Participants were showered in colors that corresponded with Phoebe’s Faith in Action Values as they ran the courses around the Phoebe Berks campus. For some, it was a competitive race, and runners showcased their speed and agility racing through the colored powder. For others, it was a fun day to stroll around the campus enjoying conversation and the occasional burst of color! Bystanders cheered for participants, no matter their goal.

The youngest racer, who was pushed in a stroller, through the oldest walker, a 90-year old Berks resident, and everyone in between was all smiles on the lovely summer morning. Paper stars, handmade by residents and employees, were also available for purchase in memory or honor of someone, and decorated the running/walking paths.

At 11 AM, Mary Kay McMahon, Executive Director of Phoebe Berks, called all participants to the front field. She instructed the group of over 100 people to throw fistfuls of color into the air to create a color rainbow “as a visual representation of Phoebe’s Faith in Action Values and of the good work we did here today to raise awareness for Alzheimer’s disease.” All funds raised at Color Me Phoebe support the Delaware Valley Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association of America.
