Century Circle Socials at Phoebe Bring Donors and Residents Face to Face

Every year, Phoebe is sustained and nourished by the generous donations of the Century Circle, which recognizes donors who contribute more than $1,000 in a fiscal year (July 1 to June 30). In celebration and honor of those donors, Phoebe hosts them at afternoon socials with the residents of our continuing care retirement communities. Donors, residents, and staff get a chance to mingle and get to know each other a little, and donors get to see just how their contributions support life and joy at Phoebe.

The socials were initiated four years ago, and the staff that runs them has taken off with more elaborate and exciting themes each year. This February, Phoebe Allentown hosted an Oscars night; Elvis came to Phoebe Richland; at Phoebe Berks, residents toured Around the World through foreign cuisines; and at Phoebe Wyncote, it was the Roaring Twenties and All That Jazz!

Phoebe Allentown’s Oscars night—held in the David A. Miller Personal Care Community—was centered on recognizing each resident for something special. Awards like “Lifetime Achievement” for residents over the age of 100, and “Good Fellas” for a group of friendly male residents were the toast of the evening. Representatives from Highmark and BSI Corporate Benefits joined to hand out the awards, donning gowns of red carpet glamour.

At Phoebe Richland, a stand-out Elvis impersonator wowed the audience with his rock’n’roll crooning, and posed for portraits with excited residents in a newly remodeled community gathering space in the health care center.

Phoebe Berks hosted an “Around the World” night at the Village Commons Personal Care Community, with well-known foods from regional cuisines and musical stylings from Billy the Piano player.

And at Phoebe Wyncote it was a Roarin’ Twenties party with live singer Meghan Williams who belted out hits of the Jazz Age, and her 3-year-old daughter who delighted residents by joining in. Residents packed the central community living space, and joined in the fun with flapper outfits, boas, and classic 1920s hair bands.

These socials—and so many more programs and life-enhancing activities at Phoebe—wouldn’t be possible without the generous support of the Century Circle.
