DSC00607“The Greatest Generation,” the men and women who grew up in the United States during the Great Depression and then went on to fight in World War II, were honored at the annual Veterans Day celebration sponsored by Phoebe Ministries and ArtsQuest. “The Greatest Generation: Untold Stories of World War II,” provided first-hand accounts of Phoebe veterans’ experiences while protecting and serving our nation.

The event kicked off with a reception followed by a panel discussion with two World War II veterans and a screening of the PBS documentary “The Ghost Army.”

Speakers for “The Greatest Generation” included Joseph Christ, who worked in German Prisoner of War camps on American soil and in 1946 helped transport nearly 2,000 German army prisoners to France on what ultimately turned out to be a devastating mission; and Rudolph Langston, a Native American who served overseas in Allied Occupied Japan then returned home and started a long career in law enforcement. Moderator for the evening was Frank Gunter, a retired U.S. Marine Corps Colonel and head of Lehigh University’s Veterans Association.
