Phoebe Offers Continuing Education Course on Dementia and Mental Health

The Phoebe Institute on Aging and Phoebe’s Center for Excellence in Dementia Care will host “Mental Health Issues in the Context of Dementia” on Friday, March 11 from 8:00 a.m. to Noon in rooms 111 to 113 in the Seeger’s Union at Muhlenberg College, 2400 Chew Street, Allentown.

The workshop will consider a range of mental health issues in the context of cognitive decline due to dementia and will provide a framework to help long term care providers and other aging professionals recognize the ways in which mental health issues present in individuals with dementia. In addition, information, tools, and resources for use in responding to mental health issues will be provided to attendees so individuals with cognitive decline due to dementia can enjoy their highest level of function and a positive quality of life.

Topics to be discussed include:
• Emerging Research and Insights in Dementia
• Understanding and Addressing Mood Disorders in the Context of Dementia
• Understanding Sexual Expressions in Older Adults with Dementia in Long Term Care
• The Role of Interdisciplinary Collaboration in Managing Behavioral Manifestations of Mental Health Disorders in Dementia

The $45 workshop is open to the public and participants must register by March 3 by visiting phoebe.org/cedcevent.
