A trip through Northern Berks County, the land of the “Fancy” Pennsylvania Dutch, will take you through fertile countryside where hundred year old Pennsylvania German barns are decorated with a unique folk art design, referred to as hex signs. Also called Barn art, the hex sign area includes all of Berks and Lehigh, and portions of seven adjacent counties. The heaviest concentrations are found in the area of Old Route 22-The Hex Tour Highway.

Located along the Appalachian Flyway in east-central Pennsylvania, Hawk Mountain Sanctuary is the world’s first refuge for birds of prey. Open year-round, visitors enjoy scenic vistas, 8-miles of ridge and valley trails, a Visitor Center, Bookstore, and native plant garden, and the chance to observe the annual autumn migration of an average 18,000 hawks, eagles and falcons.

PA German Cultural Heritage Center

The Pennsylvania German Cultural Heritage Center at Kutztown University is a place, a museum, and a year-round program. The Center represents the commitment of Kutztown University to the preservation of Pennsylvania German (“Pennsylvania Dutch”) history, folklore, and traditions. It is part of the University’s educational and cultural program.
The Center is located on a 30-acre 19th century farmstead with a stone farm house, barn, and smaller buildings which have been authentically restored, a one-room schoolhouse, circa 1870, and the library, which contains genealogical, historical and cultural information.

The Conrad Weiser Homestead is a Pennsylvania state historic site located in Womelsdorf, Berks County, Pennsylvania which interprets the life of Conrad Weiser. Weiser was an 18th century German immigrant who served as an Indian interpreter and who helped coordinate Pennsylvania’s Indian policy. He played a major role in the history of colonial Pennsylvania.

The Daniel Boone Homestead, located near Reading, Pennsylvania, is a state historic site which preserves a number of historic structures. The Homestead offers many historic programs and exhibits, preserves 579 acres of open space, and provides passive recreational areas. Daniel Boone’s parents first settled the site in 1730 and the region was populated by many diverse people — English, Welsh, Scots-Irish, Germans, Swedes, Huguenots and Lenape Indians. Daniel was born here in 1734 and spent his first 16 years here before his family migrated to North Carolina.

Our historic course features a 6271 yard par 72 course located in Wernersville, PA. The area was once a thriving spa and resort area which drew visitors from far afield, known for its peaceful rolling mountain scenery and cooler climate in summer. Galen Hall’s championship slope rating is 122 with a course rating of 70.2. The course was designed by Alexander Findlay, who was born in Scotland then emigrated to Philadelphia, and first opened to the public in 1911.
