Loretta C. Delabar is a resident of Miller Personal Care at 19th & Chew, part of the Phoebe Allentown community. Loretta moved to Phoebe in 2008 after years of making gifts to Phoebe through her church, St. Paul’s UCC in Trexlertown, and serving on the Phoebe Allentown Auxiliary.
Despite dealing with a chronic condition called spinal stenosis, Loretta is an enthusiastic participant in community life activities at Miller, including puzzles, arts and crafts, and the occasional indoor golf game. She is a talented seamstress and contributes much of her time to sewing for her fellow residents and even Phoebe staff. Loretta also announces the noon-time prayer and volunteers with the church and memorial services.
A few years ago, Loretta ran out of retirement funds, as many older adults do. Unlike other for-profit retirement communities, Phoebe’s mission and ministry are centered on charitable care. Once an individual becomes a member of our communities, he or she is a part of the Phoebe family.
“It was scary for me when I ran out of money,” says Loretta. “I’m on charitable care now. I feel very grateful to Phoebe to receive such excellent care. I couldn’t be in a better place.”
At the most vulnerable time in their lives, Phoebe is proud to provide not just quality care to our residents, but opportunities to enhance their quality of life as well. Currently, more than 60% of our nursing home residents receive charitable care. We are committed to our mission to care for each and every one. In fiscal year 2021, Phoebe provided more than $15 million in charity care to residents in need.
For nearly 120 years, Phoebe Ministries has been serving the needs of older adults in Pennsylvania. We’ve come this far by successfully adapting to more than a century’s worth of change in the health care industry. We have expanded our reach to include specialized dementia care, short term and outpatient rehabilitation, affordable housing, respite care, and pharmacy services.
As a faith-based nonprofit ministry, we are reliant on charitable donations to provide services to seniors who no longer have the means to pay for care. All proceeds from our annual Golf Tournament go to charitable care for seniors in need. With your help, we are able to sustain our legacy and mission.
Thank you so much for your support of Phoebe Ministries!
